This End User License Agreement ("Agreement") is a legal agreement between you and Detlef W.M. Hofmann ("Licensor") for the FlexCryst software suite. By downloading, installing, or using the software, you agree to be bound by the terms of this Agreement.
1. License Scope & CSD Compliance
Java Tools (Viewer, Conversion): These modules are granted as a free license for academic and personal use. They include a set of open-access test structures.
Scientific Suite (Linux/Windows): These suites include test examples based on the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD). Use of these modules is strictly permitted only if the user holds a valid license from the CCDC (Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre). By downloading these versions, you confirm your licensed status.
2. Technical Requirements & Execution
How to start the Java GUI:
Due to specific module access requirements in modern Java versions (--add-opens), the GUI must be started via the provided scripts:
Linux: Use sh start_flexcryst.sh
Windows: Use start_flexcryst.bat
Starting the .jar file by double-click may result in IllegalAccessErrors.
3. Windows 11 Security (Unblocking Files)
⚠️ Important: Windows 11 Installation Block
Windows 11 often prevents the installation of unsigned scientific software by blocking the downloaded ZIP archive. To enable the software, follow these steps before extraction:
Right-click the downloaded .zip file.
Select Properties.
In the General tab, look for "Security" at the bottom.
Check the box "Unblock" and click Apply/OK.
Extract the files. If a SmartScreen warning appears during startup, click "More info" and then "Run anyway".
Note: If you do not unblock the ZIP, Windows may silently block the included DLLs and executables, causing the program to fail.
4. Restrictions
You may not:
Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the binary modules of the Scientific Suite.
Redistribute the CSD-based test examples to third parties without a valid CSD license.
Use the software for commercial purposes without an explicit Industry License.
